With Xeikon's latest QA-P toner, its 8000 press now boasts a 13% speed boost to 260A4ppm or 19.2 linear metres on stocks up to 80gsm.
The IPDS support on Xeikon's X-800 front end includes a fifth colour, which the group claimed is unique, enabling security print applications, including a UV reflective varnish that is invisible under normal lighting conditions.
According to Danny Mertens, document printing business development manager, the 8000 "really extends our reach into transactional and transpromo printing".
He added that the 8000 had a duty cycle that put it in the realms of other vendors' continuous feed inkjet machines.
In addition, the company has spilt its toner range into two, with the QA-P type aimed at document production and the QA-I type aimed at industrial applications, such as packaging and labelling.
Both have a wider colour gamut and use "greener" underlying chemistry that removes tin, zinc and copper compounds, which in some territories meant toner was classified as chemical waste. The new toners can be disposed of in standard waste streams.
QA-P toner also has a lower fusing temperature to enable faster production and reduces energy consumption, according to Xeikon.
The QA-I industrial toner is food-approved for non-direct applications and for direct contact with dry goods, and is also 10 times more lightfast than the older toner, scoring seven on the Blue Wool Scale.
Ipex 2010 is due to take place on 18-25 May in Birmingham.
