People of Print eyes big brands after marking two years of Posterzine

Print collective People of Print has celebrated two years of Posterzine – its flagship print project produced in collaboration with Pressision Creative Print & Finishing.

The product, an A1 format poster that folds down into an A4 monograph, is printed by Leeds-based printer Pressision on its Komori LS press, using GFSmith Naturalis A1 paper stock, which is folded down into an A4 magazine using a Stahl folder.

People of Print director Marcroy Smith hosted an anniversary party for Posterzine’s 24th issue at Kamio, Shoreditch, in September. Each edition features a different artist, designer or brand, which has included Felipe Pantone and Sheffield-based fashion brand Drop Dead.

“The idea came about as something of a solution to a problem,” said Smith. “We didn’t have the time to add a late-in interview with graphic designer Eike Koenig to an issue of our magazine Print Isn’t Dead.

“Between ourselves and Pressision we came up with this concept, developed from some work I had done at university, and slotted the interview into the magazine as a pull-out poster. It’s been a successful two years for the brand, we recently took it to the Independent Art Book Fair in New York where it sparked a lot of interest too.

“Our view now is to start working with more prominent, prestigious brands and figures. We have a few on the books we can’t confirm yet, but it’s exciting. I hope we can balance working with higher-calibre subjects alongside spotlighting those that are lesser-known.”

Smith said People of Print turned to Pressision for the job after being impressed with an advert it had created for an earlier issue of Print Isn’t Dead. He credited a “positive, productive relationship” between himself and production director James Taylor to the project’s continued success.

Two different Pantone spot colours are used for each Posterzine issue, which ensures that no two issues look the same. The job is printed using fluorescent inks and there are overprints and overlays involved in that.
