Gemini Press set to boost binding capacity with Wohlenberg City 6000E

Gemini Press Group aims to increase the capacity and cut set-up times of its binding operation after signing for a Wohlenberg City 6000E binding line at Drupa

The Sussex-based group will install the £800,000 line at its Ghyllprint site in Heathfield, which specialises in the printing of short-run magazines and catalogues.

Its binding set-up includes a 16-station Sprinter gatherer, equipped with Wohlenberg's Image Recognition system, which is capable of detecting and rejecting incorrect sections.

Nigel Holmes, group managing director of the Gemini Press Group, said the new binder "increases capacity from 4,000 to 6,000 copies per hour", which will allow the group to complete more of its finishing work at the Ghyllprint plant.

The fully automatic City 6000E binder, which incorporates a rotary cover feeder, is completed with Wohlenberg's 60i three-knife trimmer and replaces an existing 12-station Wohlenberg City 4000.

Holmes said the improved set-up times on the 6000E line will also help to improve productivity with times cut from between 45 and 60 minutes on the existing system down to around 10 minutes per job on the 6000.

The new binding line is scheduled for delivery in August.
