Foilco to hold travelling workshops

Hot-stamping and cold foils supplier Foilco has announced a series of free travelling workshops to dispel myths around the art of foiling for printers and design students.

The family business has been serving the graphics industry for more than 30 years with hot-stamping, cold, textile and toner foils and laminating films across all sectors.

The travelling workshop will showcase different foiling techniques and processes and aims to attract creative people such as printers, students, designers and illustrators.

Marketing manager Jaime Evans said: “We want to quell myths around foiling, such as a need for expensive kit: you can use a toner printer to create patterns and a standard laminator to foil them.

“We have had quite a lot of interest from printers and many of them seem to think it requires big investment. But we want to show how easy and versatile it can be.”

Printers will handle hot-stamping foils and traditional print equipment like Metallic Elephant’s KSF Series 1 blocking machines, equivalent digital toner foilers, toner printers and laminators.

“It’s an opportunity for the printers or designers of today and tomorrow to inspire us in the different creative ways you can use foil in graphic design and manufacturing,” said Evans.

The workshops stand on five key principles: play, learn, create, think and foil, and were soft launched in Manchester last November.

The first workshop will be held at Bristol’s Paintworks Event Space on 26 April, then others will follow at Clerkenwell Design Week from 22 to 24 May and Birmingham Design Festival from 7 to 10 June.

Foilco also hosts 'Multiplicity' events in towns and cities to bring together printers, creatives and suppliers. The company, which turned 30 last year, recently claimed to have become the first Zero2Landfill accredited foil supplier in the UK.
