Doveton takes second Anicolor

Doveton Press has returned to Heidelberg for a second Anicolor machine, becoming the first printer in the UK to buy the new compact model, which features a shorter delivery.

The Bristol-based company signed for a five-colour Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor at Ipex. It will replace its existing four-colour Anicolor machine, which doubled the firm's output and has produced 40m impressions in three years.

Doveton is run by brothers Mark and Gavin Savage. "We love the Anicolor technology," enthused Gavin Savage, who said the new press would allow the company to meet customer demand for special colours, metallics and seals.

The shorter delivery reduces the footprint of the press by 80cm, allowing the firm to fit a five-colour into the available space in its factory alongside its other existing presses. Doveton offers a complete design-to-print service and also offers digital printing with a Kodak Nexpress 2100.

Mark Savage described the Anicolor technology as "green" and praised it for its low start-up waste, including a massive 90% reduction in waste ink: "We have required fewer than 20 sheets per job before getting sellable copy and that has cut our paper bill by 20%. What you see in repro is what you get off the press."
