CPC worked with creative agency The Click Design Consultancy, which supplied the art work for the bid document, after being commissioned by The Writers' Centre Norwich, which wanted to create a novel work of art to impress judges.
CPC operations director Robert Welsh said: "It was not a huge order – around 100 copies - which was attractive to us."
Perforated full page sections were scattered throughout the document meaning each booklet had to be hand trimmed by CPC as perforations close to the document fore edge meant that any small movements from the in-house trimmer could destroy the booklets.
Fibre board was used to stop folded sections from curling into themselves, hence making the booklet look untidy. The pages were then folded into a book lock and perfect bound using a Horizon machine. Foil blocking on the cover was outsourced.
The 25-page restriction on the document meant that French folds were added to the original design, totalling five, in order to showcase images that were seen as important for the bid. Finally, the document was packaged in hand screen-printed wrapping paper and dispatched to Paris for judging.
Writers’ Centre marketing officer Richard White said: "The end result increased overall in thickness but it looked better and it gave us the opportunity to show more images. It was filled out rather than flimsy."
