Canon extends Océ Variostream 7100 series

Canon group company Océ has expanded its Variostream 7100 series of entry-level monochrome, simplex, continuous feed printers with the addition of a new higher speed model, the Variostream 7170.

Printing in A4 2up portrait mode, the 7170 can output up to 172 pages per minute (ppm), making it the fastest machine in the Variostream 7100 family, which includes the 114ppm 7120 and the 150ppm 7160.

When printing 2up US letter-size the output speed rises to 121ppm for the 7120, 159ppm for the 7160, and 182ppm for the new 7170. All three models are toner-based LED printers with a print resolution of 240, 300 or 600dpi.

Océ said the 7170 could also be used as a proofing device or backup for other Variostream systems.

The 7170 is aimed at commercial and corporate print environments requiring low to medium volumes of transactional or direct mail, product instruction collateral and special media applications.

In addition to the new top-of-the-range model, Océ will launch a new entry-level machine, the 7110, which will run at 108 A4 ppm in 2up portrait mode (versus 114 A4 ppm on the 7120).

Print width for the 7100 family is from 177.8mm to 431.8mm and paper weights are from 60-160gsm. Features include automatic paper loading and automatic resolution detection and switching.

The VS7170 will be commercially available in Q2 2014 and the VS7110 in the second half of 2014. Pricing for the VS7170 will be announced in Q1 2014.
