Spin Print Solutions in twin Hans Gronhi install

Spin Print Solutions has installed a five-colour Hans Gronhi B3 press and ordered an additional two-colour model as part of a 600,000 litho, digital and finishing kit spend.

The new B3 GH525, from UK distributor Printers Superstore, has replaced a four-colour Shinohara press at the Barnsley, Yorkshire-based company, while the two-colour, GH522 is due in October, said joint managing director Dan Brook.

The investment also includes two digital presses, an MGI Meteor DP8700 XL supplied by MGI, and a new Xerox 800 to run alongside the firm's existing Xerox 1000. Spin Print Solutions has also replaced Horizon finishing kit with a Duplo System 5000 Pro stitching line, supplied by Duplo.

"We hope this investment will take our £1.6m turnover to £2m within around six months," said Brooks, who runs the company with Glyn Johnson. "It is about servicing the customers we have and trying to add new print management customers to our portfolio.

"We deal with print management companies who buy a range of products from digital to litho to large format, so we have to be versatile and compete across the whole spectrum, whether it’s one or 100,000 sheets," said Brook. "We have invested in every key area of our business."

The GH525 can run off 19 or 20 jobs a shift with average print runs of 1,000 to 5,000 SRA3 sheets, the company said, and while a Ryobi or Heidelberg press would take heavier stock, SPS has a five-colour Komori Lithrone 528 B2 machine that can take heavier weights.

"We chose the Hans Gronhi because we needed a new machine to cope with an ever increasing demand for B3 litho print. We have a regular contract to print on silk stocks, which requires sealing. We were doing it on our old-four colour and sealing on a GTO. This was wasteful."
