Roland DG launches new benchtop UV flatbed

Roland DG has introduced the latest addition to its VersaUV LEF range of wide-format UV printers, the streamlined LEF2-200 benchtop flatbed.

The LEF2-200 builds on the capabilities of the VersaUV LEF-200, which was launched in 2017, and is available in the UK as of 7 March at a price of £19,999. It can be purchased with an additional BOFA air filtration system or a RotaPrint accessory for direct printing onto cylindrical items.

The new machine is intended for use at promotional print companies, retailers, screen and pad printers, sign shops and commercial printers. Roland is pushing its ability to print on “virtually any surface”, with typical applications including customised promotional goods, stationery, awards and signs.

Head of sales for UK & Ireland Rob Gowleniowski said: “Each refinement in the LEF2-200 has been made according to the typical customer behaviour we have observed in its predecessor. We have seen the LEF series become a core engine in many businesses and their profitability depends on the productivity of the device. The key areas for improvement lie in production speed and ease of use.

“Through several small changes to the previous model, we have streamlined the main processes of LEF2-200 and introduced features to improve usability.

“Roland DG’s philosophy dictates that we invest in developing the right solutions for the relevant markets. The LEF2-200 is a case-in-point, demonstrating how our development roadmap is influenced directly by customer need.”

The LEF2-200 inherits its predecessors’ ability to print a variety of graphics and textures, including premium finishes like simulated embossing, onto materials up to 100mm thick.

Featuring a 508x330mm print area, the six-channel machine is available in either CMYK plus either two white channels or white and primer, or CMYK plus white and gloss.

While it offers a similar headline top speed to its predecessor, 6.35sqm/hr, the LEF2-200 speeds up the production process with the use of a new start timer function to automatically complete setup procedures such as printhead cleaning and white ink circulation by the user’s designated start time.

Roland’s eco-UV ink cures instantly on the surface of the material, opening up the machine for substrates including PVC, plastics, canvas, wood, and leather.

The VersaUV LEF2-200 will be showcased on Roland’s stand at Sign & Digital UK 2019, which will take place at the Birmingham NEC from 2-4 April, and will also be on display at Fespa from 14-17 May in Munich.
