New Morgana PUR binder ready for larger-scale jobs

Morgana has launched a larger-format version of its DigiBook 300 PUR binder capable of handling A3 landscape books.

The DigiBook 300XLPro binder has an increased input cover size of 450x1,000mm, compared with the 350x700mm maximum format of its predecessor. It can now produce landscape A3 jobs, a feature previously unavailable in the DigiBook 300 binder.

According to Ray Hillhouse, Morgana’s vice-president for offline business, the new single-phase machine can be installed in most commercial premises and print businesses, while previous models required a three-phase power supply that limited take-up.

“We were getting requests for larger books in some markets,” said Hillhouse. “For example, in Asia where the photobook market is huge, they were pushing for a larger size.

“Perhaps the most significant change is the book format. Several machines of the previous specification were sold with special extended cover kits to allow for the production of books larger than A4 size. We also had a number of requests for landscape A3 or 11x17in finished size books.”

Along with the base machine, the 300XLPro is available with two additional options – a gauze station for the production of book blocks ready for case binding, and a 78-litre capacity paper chip extractor that allows for longer, uninterrupted runs.

According to Hillhouse PUR provides a stronger bind than hotmelt glues, can be used on a wider range of substrates and is more resistant to the effects of temperature and humidity.

The £39,000 DigiBook 300XLPro is available immediately, with a lead time of between four to six weeks, and a number of machines already installed in the Middle East.

Part of Plockmatic Group, Morgana is well-known for its AutoCreaser Pro and Digifold Pro units, though it is extending into PUR binding after acquiring KGS srl manufacturers in April 2016. More than 80% of its products go into export markets and its staff numbers at 75.
