Mimaki targets package prototyping with new cutter

Mimaki’s new low-cost flatbed cutter had a positive reception at Sign & Digital.

The compact A2-format CFL-605RT can cut and crease a wide range of substrates, up to 10mm in thickness.

It is on show on the stand of Mimaki’s UK and Ireland distributor, Hybrid Services (D10).

Duncan Jefferies, director at Hybrid's marketing and design agency UV Creative, said the low-cost device had already attracted the attention of the luxury packaging market. He said the amount of attention it had received at Sign & Digital suggested that plenty of visitors had a broader remit beyond signage.

“It's been one of the most talked-about machines at the show. The perfect market is packaging and prototyping,” he said. “There are various tools for different substrates.”

The CFL-605RT costs £14,995. It has eccentric, tangential and reciprocating cutters, and a creasing roller.

As well as packaging board, Mimaki said it could also cut materials such as rubber, vinyl, and foam.

Hybrid Services is also offering it as a sub-£50k print-and-cut package together with Mimaki’s small-format UV printers, such as the UJF-6042.
