Macro Art customers can donate around 30p per square metre to have their images collected, removed of metal eyes, and put through Macro's production waste process.

Managing director John Walker said: "All our production waste is now bagged or baled, pelletized and recycled in a process that is guaranteed to be completed within the UK. Even the new end products are themselves recyclable.

"The initiative has been very popular with our clients and was instrumental in us landing a large deal."

The Cambridgeshire-based printer, which grew by 20% last year, said it plans to use the new deal to prevent the 1,100,000sqm of materials it uses each year from heading to landfill sites.

Mike Turner, managing director of ALD Industry, said: "When the bottom fell out of the plastics market, the UK was left with a lot of material sitting around.

"Macro Art have been instrumental in persuading customers to use our services and recycle this waste."

Macro Art has ISO 14001 accreditation and a turnover of £5m per annum. It employs 53 staff.
