Limpet Labels to treble production capacity

Limpet Labels UK? is about to treble its production capacity after booting up a Screen Truepress L350UV+ UV inkjet printer.

The new arrival is on the printroom floor in Wrexham, North Wales, but will be commissioned this week and replace a nine-year old Xeikon printer.

Sales director Jon Dudley said: “The old machine ran at 20 metres per minute but the Screeen Truepress fires away at 60 metres per minute."

He added that the investment had cost the company "the thick end of £500,000”.

The 20-staff business runs another Screen Truepress, an L350UV, but that runs slightly slower than the new "plus" model at 50m/min.

An eight-colour Mark Andy A3 machine rounds off the printing kit line-up and helps Dudley's team take turnover to nearly £3m from digital and flexo self-adhesive labels.

“We are a service-driven company and wanted to speed turnaround times without compromising on quality. We felt we were beginning to struggle - the old kit wasn't giving us any breathing room.

“We hope to nudge turnover to £3.5m in 12 months, and then build it up to £4m to £4.5m. But this is not about driving capacity for capacity's sake; it's about improving customer service.”

Limpet Labels UK is also toying with installing a fourth finishing line, a GM system that will cost around £200,000 to £250,000, within the next few months.
