The four-colour press, which cost the Broadstairs, Kent-based commercial printer around £200,000, was bought from Dartford-based reseller Exel Printing Machinery and installed at its 557sqm premises around a month ago.
The press has replaced a Miller B1 four-colour and coater, which has been part-exchanged.
Lanes Printers, which has 15 staff and a turnover of just under £1m, serves a wide range of clients across the UK from the pharmaceutical, travel, construction, retail and healthcare industries, with run lengths ranging from 150 to more than 2m impressions.
Managing director Wayne Yorath said: “We needed to modernise with the features of newer presses and increase our production speeds.
“We’ve had the same turnover for four years, give or take £10,000, and it’s not because of lack of work because we were already working to capacity. The KBA will hopefully free up a bit of capacity to enable us to achieve a greater turnover.”
The firm looked at other options on the market but found the KBA press to be the best fit for its requirements due to its double-sized impression cylinders and ability to do perfecting work.
“The 105 ticked most of the boxes. It settled in quite quickly and has fulfilled its expectations so far,” said Yorath.
The business also operates a Hans Gronhi GH524 and a secondhand B3 Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52 as well as Heidelberg cutting and creasing kit and a Screen PlateRite 8600N-S B1 thermal platesetter.
