John Dollin expands packaging possibilities with Foliant

John Dollin Printing Services is set to continue its expansion into the bespoke packaging market with the installation of a new Foliant Pollux 760SF laminator.

Provided by Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS), the Whitchurch, Hampshire commercial printer invested £50,000 in the new machine at the start of the summer to replace its ageing D&K 3210.

John Dollin was confident in the capabilities of the Pollux, having previously invested in a Foliant Vega B3 laminator from IFS.

Director Ian Dollin said: “What we can assure our customers with the new Foliant is that our capabilities will not be changed drastically, and they can continue to rely on us for the same things as before. What the Foliant gives us is greater reliability.

“Our relationship with IFS is a very good one, having bought a previous laminator from them as well as a whole bunch of Horizon finishing kit – we run a full gamut in-house.

“While we have no explicit growth plans at the moment, we are fulfilling more and more packaging commissions, which this new machine will aid with.”

The Foliant Pollux 760SF runs at speeds up to 50m/min on sheet sizes from 300x200mm to 760x1,100mm. It is a heavy-duty construction machine with a suction feeder and a high-speed bump separator, featuring a walk-in service section and with optional pallet feeder, a pallet stacker and an electric film loader.

It is capable of running at 3,000sph B1 portrait or 6000sph B2 landscape.

At £3.4m-turnover John Dollin’s 1,860sqm site, it will complement a printing portfolio of a Heidelberg XL 105 and a XL 75, two HP Indigos – a 12000 and a 7600 – and a Linoprint. Its finishing capabilities include guillotining, wiro- and PUR binding, and saddle stitching.

John Dollin Printing Services employs 33 members of staff, fulfilling a wide range of work including business cards, brochures, POS and bespoke packaging.
