The TH 82-P and KH 82-P folding systems are aimed at industrialised commercial printers with Speedmaster XL presses or book binders with an annual production of more than 40 million sheets.

“We have consistently enhanced our post-press range in order to optimise the entire production process, and will be showcasing new machines for both commercial and packaging printers at Drupa which will help our customers to be successful and competitive in their production,” said Heidelberg head of services Harald Weimer.

Heidelberg said the “P” in the model name of the new machines stands for enhanced performance, productivity, and reliability.

The devices round out the top end of the Stahlfolder range, which also consists of the Ti, BH/CH, TH/KH and TX 96 models.

The PFX feeder has been carried over into the new models of the Stahlfolder TH/KH 82-P as a technology transfer from the TX 96.

The increase in productivity is achieved through a sheet guide that permits shingled folding through the entire machine.

Shingled guiding enables more sheets to be processed in the same time, without increasing the speed at which sheets are transported.

Folded sheets in the final format 16-page A4 can therefore be produced at a rate of up to 16,000sph at a machine speed of 150 metres/min.

A new enhancement to the Stahlfolder TH/KH folding machines is an optional press module integrated in the folder. This is said to produce a sharper fold, resulting in better quality and better processing in subsequent folding stations.

Heidelberg said productivity is guaranteed on the TH/KH 82-P machines through the use of the Palamides Alpha 500 HD delivery with one-person operation.

“The new Stahlfolder TH/KH 82-P allows us to increase productivity without compromising on quality and process reliability,” said Weimer.

“The machines can also be integrated into the Prinect printing and media workflow and controlled via Remote Service for maximum transparency and reliability.”

Pricing for the new Stahlfolder devices has not yet been disclosed.

Heidelberg will also show its new Fujifilm co-developed B1 sheetfed inkjet press, Primefire 106, at Drupa in Dusseldorf, Germany, from 31 May to June 10.
