Cubiquity achieves ISO 27001 accreditation

Print management firm Cubiquity has been awarded ISO 27001:2013 information security management certification.

The Whyteleafe, Surrey-based firm achieved the new standard, following a total review of all information and data security processes, earlier this month.

"It took us about six months to get the accreditation. It’s a long process and they really go in and out of every single process that you do to make sure it’s applicable," said sales director Shane Inger.

ISO 27001:2013 puts more emphasis on measuring and evaluating how well an organisation’s information security management system is performing.

There is a new section on outsourcing, which reflects the fact that many organisations rely on third parties to provide some aspects of IT. More attention is also paid to the organisational context of information security and the risks associated.

Overall, the standard is designed to fit better alongside other management standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, for which Cubiquity is also accredited.

The company provides print and design services for blue chip clients in the pharmaceutical, travel, public sector, retail and construction industries as well as airlines, charities, insurance and healthcare companies.

"We have been providing accredited direct mail and data handling services for many years through our valued quality assured supplier base," said Inger.

"The ISO 27001:2013 accreditation allows us to provide greater security around our operations to meet the increasing demands and service expectations of our existing customers. It also opens the door for many more opportunities with new potential customer targets."

Cubiquity was launched in June 2009 by the former directors of BDL Print Group, which was closed down the same month after parent firm Paterson Printing went into administration.

Inger, a former director at BDL, set up Cubiquity with former BDL colleagues Kevin Rowland and Dan Mitchell as well as bringing on board new recruit Nick Burden, to lead the firm’s creative design agency.

The company, which currently employs 33 staff and has a turnover of £7.5m, is on target to achieve sales in excess of £10m next year.

It featured in the December 2013 Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 list of Britain’s top 100 private firms with the fastest growing sales over the past three years. It was also one of the winners of the Santander Smarta Breakthrough 50 2014 Awards earlier this year.

“We’ve got considerable ambitions to keep pushing it and to keep doing what we’re doing. Our customers tell us that we have quite a fresh approach to print, looking at things with the design and print together. In the next five years we want to be achieving a turnover of £20m,” said Inger.
