CS Labels buys second Xeikon CX3 label press

CS Labels is adding a second Xeikon CX3 high-speed digital label press.

The all Xeikon-house installed its first earlier this year. The press, previously known as the Cheetah, has been renamed the CX3 by Xeikon, which now refers to “Cheetah technology”.

“We’ve had eight Xeikon presses in eight years. You won’t get a stronger endorsement than that,” said CS Labels managing director Simon Smith.

“The press we installed earlier this year has performed beyond our expectations in terms of productivity and uptime.”

The new CX3 will be installed before the end of the year. Smith said it would provide the Willenhall-based company with further additional capacity and enable it to run two dedicated production lines. The firm runs five Xeikon digital label presses and six GM finishing lines including laser cutting.

“The existing Cheetah will run polypropylene substrates, and the new one will be just running paper so we don’t have to swap substrates around,” he explained.

CS Labels produces a range of products including peel-and-reveal labels, flexible packaging and transfers. “It’s not just short runs, some of our run lengths can be 30,000 linear metres,” Smith added.

Turnover at the 45-staff company is currently circa £4m, and Smith has sales of £5m in his sights once the new equipment is installed.

The firm is also a finalist in two categories in the upcoming PrintWeek Awards.
