Clicks Digital installs HP Designjet L65500 through third storey window

Clicks Digital has had to call in a specialist team to help install an HP Designjet L65500 into its print hall, on the second floor.

HP distributor ArtSystems organised installing the 1.8tonne machine at the wide-format print company, bringing in a 55tonne crane for the task.

The operation involved building a scaffold platform and taking out a third-storey window in order to move the machine into position.

The L65500 replaced a HP Designjet 9000 model which was also removed by the crane and the installation was completed in a morning.

Graham Leggett, production director for large format, said that the impetus for buying the L65500 printer was its environmental credentials, such as latex printing, among other aspects. "It's the only machine that ticked all the boxes," he said. "It's environmentally friendly and we have things like ISO 14001, and it's where our clients wanted to go."

He said that the 9000 solvent printer it replaced had required an air filtering system with carbon filters that needed regular changing, resulting in toxic used filters being sent to landfill.

The city of London-based printer handles a range of outdoor work for its roster of corporate clients including major ad agencies which Leggett described as very sophisticated in their environmental demands.

He said the new machine was around three times as productive as its predecessor.

Clicks Digital has a turnover of £4.1m and employs 32 staff.
