Canon launches entry-level imagePress with multiple finishing options

Canon has added a new model to its imagePress range of digital printers.

The imagePress C650 is aimed at in-house print departments and creative businesses who want to produce professionally finished materials such as brochures, catalogues, direct mail and duplex banners.

The C650 prints at 65 pages per minute and is built on the same platform engine as the imagePress C850 Series, launched last September.  It also offers the same finishing options, including a two-knife booklet trimmer, a paper folding unit, a document insertion unit, a booklet finisher, a multi-hole punch including creasing, and a stapler.

The new model supports a range of production RIPs including PrismaSync and the new EFI Fiery imagePress Server H300. Customers in office environments can integrate the C650 into their existing systems using imagePress Printer kits. And the addition of Multi-functional Embedded Application Platforms means it can tap into office workflow systems such as uniFlow.

Peter Wolff, senior director, Customer Group Commercial Printer and Production CRD at Canon Europe, said customers were calling for an affordable entry-level production device that could connect easily to their existing systems.

“This further development of the imagePress family is a perfect example of meeting specific customer needs by expanding the scope of already proven technology,” he said.

Canon’s 100ppm C1000VP imagePress has seen more than 80 sales in Europe and at Drupa 2016 the company unveiled an entry-level follow-up, the imagePress C8000VP.
