The KM 610, the latest addition to Kolbus' perfect binder line-up, uses PUR gluing and features a 90° turn in the gathering line to facilitate a 16-hopper gatherer. The machine will be installed at Buxton’s Derbyshire base this summer.

It replaces two ageing Wohlenberg lines and is expected to be faster and more efficient than both combined once it is up and running, operating at up to 9,000cph.

“We were looking for a proven, robust and efficient PUR binding line and, having looked at other suppliers, felt that the latest version of the Kolbus KM 610 well fitted our criteria as it should double speed and efficiency, improving both capability and productivity,” said chief executive and managing director Kirk Galloway.

“With Muller Martini acquiring Kolbus’s binding operations, we felt the business would remain in strong and capable hands. It will address the increased demand we are seeing for longer-run bound publications.

“As we continue to increase our volume we are constantly reviewing advances in technologies in every area.”

Buxton runs four Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106 B1 long-perfectors each with CutStar, in eight- and 10-colour formats, and three stitching lines.

In January, the firm installed a new Stahlfolder TH 82-P from Heidelberg, after benefitting from two other Stahlfolders that had increased folding productivity by 35%.

Buxton Press was named Company of the Year for the third consecutive time at 2017’s PrintWeek Awards in October, shortly after Galloway was promoted to chief executive.

The £23m-turnover firm prints 650 regular titles for 400 publishers and employs 140 members of staff.
