Called Vista, the new wallpaper will initially be available in 150gsm weight and is designed to provide a “top quality wallcovering at a great price”, according to the company.
The PVC-free non-woven material is suitable for digital printing and is said to offer a soft, smooth, matt surface structure and a high-grade coating that delivers a sharp, photo-realistic print.
ArtSystems marketing manager John Draycott did not disclose prices but said Vista came in three widths: 1,524mm, 1,300mm and 762mm, all compatible with solvent, eco-solvent, latex, and UV printers.
“Vista was launched this week and is the first wallpaper in a 20-year-old range that up to now included CAD technical papers, plate papers and banner materials.
“We have reached the stage where we can offer a wallpaper that will be competitive on price, but still offer a high level of quality for all sorts of décor, such as shop decoration.”
Divisional manager for consumables Paul Tarry added: “We wanted to bring our resellers a Xativa wallpaper that would provide the best output quality across the broadest range of ink technologies.
“The aim was to introduce top quality printability on an affordable wallcovering, and Vista meets that criteria. The secret is in its formulation.”
Nottingham-based ArtSystems was established in 1986 and is now part of Westcoast Holdings group. The firm has a turnover of more than £30m and employs more than 60 people.
The company serves the design, graphics, signage and display markets with imaging and printing hardware plus material and consumables from Canon, Colortrac, HP, Keencut, Onyx and others.
ArtSystems has also announced a new firmware upgrade bringing improvements to Summa’s S Class 2 cutting plotters.
This upgrade is free for cutters purchased in 2018, but for older models there will be a charge. Draycott said the upgrade formed an ongoing programme of changes.
“However, instead of small tweaks this most recent upgrade includes a range of full features to offer several sizeable enhancements.”
The bundle of improvements includes greater user-friendliness, OPOS XY2, which registers multiple marks along a job, screensaver functions and a new feature called G- Performance.
This can boost performance by up to 40% by improving cutting speeds across a wider range of substrates and allowing for swifter reading of registration marks.
Meanwhile, ArtSystems’ technical service manager Lorna Brindley has been nominated in two categories for the web channel CRN's Women in the Channel Awards 2018, aimed at addressing the gender imbalances that hold back companies.
She has been nominated for both Woman of the Year and Role Model of the Year. The CRN award winners will be announced on 18 October at a ceremony at the Hilton Bankside, London.
