AMS to launch heavy stock printer

Mailroom equipment supplier Addressing & Mailing Solutions (AMS) will launch its first heavy stock printer, the AMS Illumina, at Label & Print 2015 later this month.

The digital laser device can print on stock up to 500gsm, which the company said is heavier and thicker than any other comparable printer.

It can print on to media sizes from A6 to SRA3, banner lengths of up to 1.3m and transparent media, enabling it to produce high-quality marketing collateral, packaging and POS items.

It also features a high-capacity production feeder that can hold up to 700 sheets, enabling users to print up to 50ppm, and can reach resolutions of up to 2,400dpi. The HD Laser Safe toner ensures that colour and tone have depth.

A licence for iQueue X colour workflow software is also included with the printer. This digital pre-press software includes advanced file management and colour editing tools, while variable data and barcodes can also be produced.

Also included with the unit are a moveable machine cabinet, a high-speed feeder and a high-powered laptop pre-installed with the iQueue software.

AMS managing director Kevin McPheat said: “Although we specialise primarily in mailing equipment, the launch of the multi-purpose, heavy stock Ilumina printer will enable us to venture into other markets where the need to produce quality print on thick stock is essential.”

The printer, which will be available directly from AMS for around £14,750, will be debuted at Label & Print 2015, which will be held at Birmingham’s NEC on February 25 and 26, co-located with Packaging Innovations 2015 and Empack 2015.

AMS also recently launched the AMS Impressia, a laser envelope printer capable of printing over 4,000 full-colour envelopes per hour.
