Agfa upgrades Jeti Mira with LED option

Agfa Graphics has launched an upgrade to its Jeti Mira flatbed printer that uses UV LED curing technology instead of conventional UV.

The Jeti Mira LED is commercially available with immediate effect. The original conventional UV device, which was launched last year, will remain on the market but Agfa anticipates most customers will go for the UV LED option as it has additional benefits and will be available for the same price.

Agfa Graphics sign & display marketing manager Willy Van Dromme said: “There are many advantages to UV LED curing. The electricity bill is considerably lower, so you use less power, and when you switch the system on or off you can instantly start working, you don’t have warm-up or cool-down time.

“The UV emission profile of an LED lamp is also very constant over the lifetime of the lamp and, because LEDs have minimal heat output, this expands the media range that you can print on because heat-sensitive media remains flat.”

The machine can print up to 2.69m-wide, has a dockable roll-to-roll option, two table options and includes two rows of fast-firing Ricoh inkjet printheads.

The maximum speed achievable with the machine is up to 230sqm/hr although Express mode provides sellable quality at 135sqm/hr and Production mode provides higher quality at 70sqm/hr, according to Agfa.

The cost of the device starts from around €275,000 (£234,000) for the six-colour plus white 2732HS model, which comes with a 2.7x3.2m table and twin heads. Primer and varnish options are also available for a higher cost while pricing has not yet been defined for the 2716 model, which comes with a 2.7x1.6m table.

The Jeti Mira LED also features PrintSphere cloud-based integration, powered by Asanti, for production automation, easy file sharing and safe data storage, while the varnish option enables 3D lens printing.

This technology uses a combination of printed lenses composed of UV-curable varnish and image manipulations to add depth to applications including POP displays, packaging, decorative prints and trade show graphics.
