Print Buying

The DVLA is offering a print tender worth between £36m-£60m which would involve supplying envelopes to government departments and authorities.

It is looking for companies to supply bespoke, printed and standard catalogue envelopes for a three-year agreement.

However, the DVLA is only expected to make up £3.2m of the haul – the rest will be made available to any applicable government authority.

More than one hundred different types of envelopes will need to be produced; the majority of which will require a small amount of ink in two colours.

The DVLA will require high-volume stock to be printed monthly, however, the weekly quantities to be delivered will vary. Because of this, the facility to produce and store stock is essential.

Mandy Hodgson, procurement services at DVLA, said: "The value of the contract is an estimate based on the expected uptake from government departments. We are inviting companies to register their interest. They should also ensure they meet our strict criteria."

The tender document reads: "Envelopes are a critical commodity and the DVLA will expect robust demonstrable business continuity planning.

"Suppliers will have to demonstrate an ability to uplift capacity to meet possible new DVLA business processes."

Printers can visit www.delta-ets.com to express interest up until 7 August 2008. Successful applicants will then be invited to tender.
