Harrington: "We like to keep ahead of the game in terms of quality"

The Portsmouth-based company, which was initially formed in 2012 to primarily carry out direct mail work for parent company Bishops Printers, took delivery of the two machines in December.

The 144ppm Nuvera and 100ppm Versant, which are additional to the firm’s plant list, were bought from Xerox reseller Xeretec for around £150,000 and join an existing Nuvera 144 and a Xerox Color J75, which were bought in 2014.

General manager Kristian Harrington said: “The first Nuvera and J75 set us up for growth in 2015 and we grew fantastically well.

“We like to keep ahead of the game in terms of quality and making sure that we are geared up to achieve our goals.

“We’ve invested in these two machines as well to increase our capacity, improve our efficiency and cope with the demand and growth that we had in 2015. We’ve got ambitious growth targets and we’re certainly going in the right direction.”

The firm, which has 19 staff, has doubled its turnover over the past 12 months to around £1.5m and hopes to increase it again to around £2.5m over the next year.

“The Versant can also do up to 660mm sheets, with an upgrade that we’ve got that only came out a few weeks ago,” said Harrington.

“This allows us to print things like postcards 6-up instead of 4-up and we’re also able to do A4 landscape, which we’ve not been able to do before. Now we can do this in-house we don’t outsource anything anymore.”

Harrington said the firm has partnered with Xeretec again due to “its excellent service and support” and stuck with Xerox due to the reliability and capabilities of the manufacturer’s machinery.

“The variable stock that we print on is so wide and varied that the Xerox kit is perfectly aligned for what we do in terms of its spec for the multiple stocks,” he said.

The Mailing People also operates Canon imageRunners, two Sitma polywrapping machines, two Buhrs enclosing machines, Videojet and AstroJet inkjet systems and Stahl and Morgana folders.

It has also recently spent £15,000 on Cygnus data management software and achieved ISO 27001 information and data security certification.
