MPGi adds 10-colour Heidelberg in bid to boost turnover by a third

MPG Impressions (MPGi) has signed for a new 10-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 perfector in a bid to increase capacity at the Chessington printer.

Demand for the machine, which will arrive this autumn, follows the consolidation of printers Lasting Impressions and Unwin Brothers to form MPGi.

The company anticipates the SM 102, which comes with Preset Plus feeder and delivery will help the printer achieve a 10-15% productivity boost over its older eight- and 10-colour SM 102 long perfectors.

Mark Croucher, managing director at MPGi, said that despite the machines being great workhorses, "it has become clear we needed another long perfector".

He added: "Investment in the latest technology is the only way forward, maximising every area to reduce operating costs, either by faster, more efficient equipment or automation."

The company currently enjoys a £13.3m annual turnover but is eyeing £17-18m over the next three years. It operates both litho and digital kit and plans to invest again next year in another Heidelberg machine.

"We have seen the potential of the XL 105 and Inpress Control which is our next planned investment for 2009," he added.
