Improved Financial Performance - winner: Newnorth Print

This award recognises companies that have achieved a significant boost in financial performance, while also looking at their approach to solving problems and the potential for lasting improvement

A solid set of results for Newnorth Print with pre-tax profits rising consistently over a four-year period. Even though the latest figures showed a slight fall in sales, the firm managed to keep its finances under control. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) showed an impressive 41% rise in the past year. The company also scored highly in other measures with improved working capital management. Newnorth also punched above its weight by consistently increasing sales and added-value per employee, all of which exceed printing industry averages.

This Bedford-based printer provides a complete solution including creative, pre-press, litho and digital print, wide-format, mailing and fulfilment and print management.

According to its entry, the firm works hard to control costs while delivering improved customer service with examples including recent investments in web-to-print technology from RedTie and Agfa workflow and job submission tools. It also places its Optimus MIS at the centre of operations to keep a tight rein on the business.
