Targetcolour trials site for remote access help

Targetcolour has launched a subscription-based colour management, process control and print troubleshooting service - Mypressxpert.com.

The firm offers a 6% reduction in makeready times, and also claims 20% reduction in reprints and a 3% reduction in fount solution, electricity and white paper waste.

Mypressxpert costs £100 a month per digital press, £200 for a sheetfed press, £400 for a heatset web and £100 per tower for coldset web.

It combines software for calibration, troubleshooting and quality certification with instant remote access to colour and printing specialists.

"We can work with any machine anywhere in the world," claimed Targetcolour technical director Mark Priest. "We can handle most things remotely. Most printers need 15 minutes of time immediately and with Mypressxpert we can work in real time."

The service, which is currently being trialled across various sectors, is based on Priest's Press Signature software. It works by diagnosing mechanical printing problems and controlling dot gain. The software uses readings from standard control strips and data from closed-loop measuring systems and handheld spectrophotometers.

"Nine out of 10 times when printers run into problems reaching ISO 12647 it is a mechanical problem," explained Priest.
