Ink Shop offers reward to jail £400k arsonist

The Ink Shop has launched an appeal for information following a £400,000 arson attack on its multimillion- pound Cumbernauld, Glasgow production site.
Cumbernauld CID is currently investigating the fire, which was started at approximately 9.45pm on Sunday 7 December, and the Scottish print group is offering a £3,000 reward for information leading to conviction.
The attack completely destroyed the firm’s main office facilities at the site and seriously damaged two other offices and the reception area.
However, the presshall was unaffected by the fire and, according to managing director Stuart Mason, the facility was back up to full production after one day.
“We already had a disaster recovery protocol written in 2007. This provided us with a ‘tick box’ list and meant that the presses were running by Tuesday,” said Mason.
The firm has employed a team of private investigators to supplement the police enquiry and said it has committed £30,000 worth of resources to securing a conviction.
“We’re viewing this attack with the utmost seriousness. This was an attack on a business for no other reason than we’re successful and showing growth in an industry plagued with decline and recession,” said Mason.
According to Mason, sales in December alone were up 23% year-on-year at the firm. In addition to the Cumbernauld hub, the firm has five wholly-owned branches and eight franchise operations.
Anyone with information relating to arson attack should contact Cumbernauld CID on 01236 503959.
