Goodman Baylis rescue plan hangs in balance

Goodman Baylis' future was uncertain this week as it emerged that administrator Harris Lipman was still in talks with one interested buyer as work in progress gradually ran out.

The majority of the Worcestershire-based company's 120 staff were made redundant by joint administrators Michaela Hall and Freddy Khalastchi on 5 November, following the administrators appointment on 3 November.

However, a skeleton staff was retained to complete work in progress as the administrators attempted to find a buyer.

A spokesperson for Harris Lipman said: "Negotiations for a sale are ongoing and the majority of the work in progress is now complete."

It is thought the administrators are still in negotiations with the single prospective buyer.

Meanwhile, some of the company’s kit, which is not wanted by the potential buyer, is on offer.

The spokesperson said: "There are some items of equipment that the prospective purchaser is not interested in and the joint administrators at Harris Lipman have had third party offers for these."

Goodman Baylis’ troubles are in stark contrast to sister company Borcombe SP, which was bought out of administration on 7 November.
