Borcombe SP bought by Datateam Publishing

Borcombe SP has been bought out of administration by Datateam Publishing, the contract publishing and direct mail business.

The deal was signed this afternoon following HS Printer’s decision to put the business up for sale last week due to adverse trading.

It is Datateam Publishing’s second acquisition this year, having bought the assets of Basingstoke-based Turnergraphic in March via the acquisition vehicle Hollyridge Enterprises.

Datateam finance director Douglas Wright said that the group had initially looked at the business six weeks ago, when it was acquired by HS Printers.

"We had some knowledge of the company and felt we could do something with Borcombe as there are synergies with what we have at Turnergraphic," he said.

Wright said that the company was placed into administration prior to the purchase there were cross guarantees between Borcombe and Goodman Baylis and he could not be satisfied that we were not going to be inheriting liabilities from Goodman Baylis.

All Borcombe staff have been transferred over to the company.

So Borcombe is the latest sacrificial lamb on the altar of those paper merchants who want to re-write the law to serve their own narrow interests. How will they justify dealing with Parvez Kayani, this latest pre-packer who already enjoys a reputation for pre-packing Turner Graphics? Especially after they nonchalantly drove HS Printers to quickly decide it was not worth the fight? Where does this crazy policy end? If Parvez Kayani pre-packs in a few months time does the contagion transfer on to the next hapless buyer or does the curse expire after it passes through a specified number of hands? Do they ever stop to think of the damage they wreak on the lives of others particularly the loyal and hard working staff at Borcombe?

Inky Fingers - 07 November 2008

Ann when you say "These self-serving money grubber suppliers" do you mean paper companies?

We all need to realise credit is not a right, if you buy goods you should pay for them, my paper companies give me 60 days credit, which I believe is more than generous. Many printers run on margins that a too tight, when times are good they manage nicely, but when margins tighten they will struggle to pay bills, wages, interest. We are living in a new age of credit being harder to obtain, businesses need to be 'credit worthy'.

Some previous posts have been deleted as they had all been posted by the same user under different aliases

Joseph McGillicuddy - 07 November 2008

I agree, credit is not a right but withholding supplies it from the likes of HS Printers when they were willing to pay cash up front, just because they bought the business as a pre-pack, is not exactly a socially responsible way for a paper supplier or any other supplier to conduct their business. We supplied then and will miss their business.

Eric Newbegin - 07 November 2008

Inky Fingers, 60 days is fine but McGillicuddy's point seems to be that you should at least be able to buy what you want if you are willing to pay up front and I've heard many people tell me suppliers wouldn't supply HS even for cash up front, because they were a pre-pack. That's the real issue here, it's a cartel practice which is driving innocent people and their staff out of business and out of a job.

Nottm Printer - 07 November 2008

I think we need to distinguish between the 2 types of pre packs we are seeing:-

The genuine pre pack agreeement, where a new management team come in, with fresh capital and a working plan to enable the business to recover and grow in the future.

The 'cant be bothered' pre pack where Directors are entering administration as an easy way out, losing all their debt and starting up again the following day, arrogantly assuming suppliers should be greatful for their business.

In both cases staff tend to retain employment but in the second case there is a detrimental impact on suppliers further down the line.

Charlie Minnot - 07 November 2008

That's the important difference, whether it's a stitch-up pheonix or a genuine pre-pack for good reason without the previous directors involved. What seems to have happened at Borcombe and Goodman Baylis is that the new owners were treated as though they were the old ones and no suppliers would deal with them. That's a disaster for all the innocent staff and for those suppliers and customers that stayed loyal to the business.

Big Mess eeeee - 07 November 2008

A supplier can deal with who they please, surely if they have taken huge loss's through another company closing on them, they have to protect themselves and their own staff. I mean look at it this way. before mpi there was \(look at all the companies mpi took onboard that had failed and owed suppliers loads) Garden house press, Pimms and a lot of others, Suppliers have lost a fortune I would think most were loyal but having been stung 3 or 4 time over. they are saying enough is enough.. I have to say is it good business sense to go down this road again

Mike Wilce - 07 November 2008

Borcombe plc.... No problem....

mpi borcombe..hs romsey borcombe..& now datateam borcombe!?????

As an ex employee who was promised .... and according to a final payslip..has ALREADY! been paid my final severence pay.... A LIE... Be very wary future/current suppliers... The most recent people in charge are LIRARs... particularly, MARTIN DANIEL & SIMON HUNT.... I just want monies owed to me... I hope that both of the middle 2 owners... ie, their directors have to experience a great more deal of shit than I have .. I doubt it... I know that they have caused much grief elsewhere too

Mike Wilce - 07 November 2008

ps

My real name... not a ficticional one....

Mike Wilce - 07 November 2008

I sincerely hope they will sue.me....Because they will both losoe...

B1 Printer - 07 November 2008

Paper company's drove HS into admin? From where do you get that information Eric?

I suspect that the HS team realised just how wafer thin print margins are and that the prepack was a misjudged and illprepared move.

It's a shame for the company's employees and suppliers, but if this company wasn't strong enough to survive why should it be able to walk away from a host of debts and then reappear with a subtlety different name \(again) and be able to undercut those of us left.

The sad reality is that there is not enough work to go around and whilst creditors continue to do business with these 'new' companies the trade will not get better.

Mike Wilce - 07 November 2008

Please...clients of this bag of of rubbish.. seek your print elsewhere...

Mike Wilce - 07 November 2008

& Martin Daniel... In a ring... Queensbury rules etc.Yes please.....No probs...

Bad Boy - 09 November 2008

Dear Mr Wilce:

1) It seems you have been turned over, best of luck getting sorted.

2) The Borcombe staff deserve a chance to prove themselves as do the new owners so kindly stop wishing them out of a job by asking suppliers not to deal with them or customers to take their work elsewhere. You want your previous workmates on the street?

3) It is a well known internet proverb. Booze and keyboards do not mix. One ends up saying things that make one look like a lush and an idiot. Think about it...............

4) Have a good day

Mike Wilce - 09 November 2008

Dear Mr Bad Boy.. \(or Mr Too Scared) might be deamed a more appropriate name

1) I have been... well so far...

2) I wish all of my former colleagues the very best of luck & certainly have no desire to see them treated as badly as me...

3) Speak for yourself...

4) One day, I hope to.....

Alan Partridge - 10 November 2008

O'dear me, has it really come to this - 'Queensbury Rules' ?

I think there are better ways of venting ones anger or voicing one's opinion Mike, I don't think your kicking and screaming will achieve much.

It saddens me to read such utter 'tripe'

ah haa

The Badger - 10 November 2008

Best of luck to all at Borcombe and to the new owners. It's a good crew down there in Romsey. Onwards and upwards!

Don Keyballs - 11 November 2008

Mike Wilce - 14 November 2008

Alan Partridge ... You know nothing..However, if you know of a way that will result in my not having to waste my time ranting on here....?

Don K... I don't drink gin & I am posting this at 21.50 hrs....

ps How would you two smug sounding cretins feel if you had experienced the financial grief that I have been caused...?

Both of your none too clever post's are water off a none too clever FSC's back... either..

Don Keyballs - 17 November 2008

Mike, forgive me, but information I have tells me you are not the most athletic person in the world & may have age against you, in fact you have been similarised to a tortoise!, or was that the speed you worked!

Alan Partridge - 17 November 2008

Mike, let me get this right, are you disrespecting the Partridge? Do you want to go, Bare chest, Queensbury rules??? Do you? Do you wanna get busy, you got it boyo just say the word!

stan manley - 18 November 2008

Alan and Don I wouldn't be so smug if I were you.

Your time will be next - Ginge will get you both- it's only a matter of time. He get's everyone - be afraid be very afraid.

Bad Boy - 18 November 2008

Don't give the poor, sad, lonely sod the stature of being a powerful force. He's a useless, bullying piece of work hiding behind supposed rules and regulations. When he goes to bed at night and gazes into that mirror. He looks and, in his heart, he knows. Hollow man. Please, new owners, open your eyes and ears and oust this disruptive fool before he brings down the show once again.

Mike Wilce - 18 November 2008

Don Keyballs.... It's all in your 'name' me thinks... + I'll wager that I could out-sprint the source of your both, libelous and scurrilous information pertaining to the speed of my brain & body...

As for you Mr P... I have it on good authority that your famous screen namesake is considering a visit to Messrs Sue, Grabit & Runne over your attempt to use his good name in your worthless efforts to try & pursue an alternative comedic career..I hope your day job is a safe one!...

ps... I am not a boyo.. & would prefer not to be bare chested in your presence...for apparently obvious reasons..

Mike Wilce - 18 November 2008

& yes ginger is a total liar....& as a Director of Ops.... is completely useless, however, he has been a lot more successful in his career than me....

I guess that telling lies is good..... as is..... being totally crap at running a company..whilst earning handsome wag.. sorry...salaries when the employees are treated like the proverbial ... biblical word...sorry I can not remember... this is because I am drunk ....on anger... Anger...is a sort of alcohol substitute maybe..

Alan Partridge - 26 November 2008

Mike, I've gone quiet because you are starting to get very boring so I decided to exit this particular debate.

I hope everything works out for you

Richard Head - 27 November 2008

Yeah Mike

I am not even involved in this debate and have to tell you that you've left your mouth running.

What a bore!

Eric Newbegin - 01 December 2008

What kind of prat is this Mike Wilce? A big one obviously but he should just get back in the bar, fall over again and stay there.

Richard Head - 03 December 2008

To be honest I just think Mike is depressed and hurting because he has been impacted personally.

With this in mind mate if I have been a bit hard accept my apologies.

That said Mike you have not given a good impression of yourself ... so I would advise you with regards posting anything else that less is probably more.

Mike Wilce - 04 December 2008

I am too rude to post anymore...so will not...

Bad Boy - 22 December 2008
