Post-Press Company of the Year: Diamond Print Services
Post-Press Company of the Year – Winner: Diamond Print Services
Tuesday, 21 October 2008
A clear winner in this category, Diamond Print Services was praised by the judges for its precision folding and elegant binding.
It has an innovative approach to problem solving and its work was to an extremely high standard, said one. Diamond is no stranger to success in this category, having taken this award in 2005 and last year it was one of the finalists. Work submitted this year included the Vauxhall Track Days brochure, printed by Wyndeham Westway. Diamond used a blue-lined display board to manufacturer the cases for the cover. The cases were then covered with Quinel imitation leather. According to Diamond, this was a simple and effective design, but very difficult to produce. For the BHF Annual Review, 10 inserts were required with each varying in size. The finished size of the document also meant that Diamond had to come up with some creative thinking. In the end, the company elected to die cut all of the board inserts, leaving a binding stub in the spine. This allowed Diamond’s binding line to clamp the book blocks successfully. For the Creative Circle book, Diamond worked with TAG to finish 700 copies. Each book weighed not far short of a kilo.
