DC Thomson & Co print staff to strike over pay
A strike at the Glasgow print site of publisher DC Thomson & Co is set to begin this Saturday following a dispute over pay.
PrintWeek understands staff will take industrial action following the rejection of a 3% pay deal. It is believed the employees are aggrieved that a subsidiary company will receive a 3.5% pay deal.
The strike is scheduled to take place at the local newspapers division, which prints central and eastern Scotland paper The Courier, among other titles.
Norman King of Unite said: "A strike is a last resort. We are meeting with management on Wednesday and are hopeful for a resolution to avoid strike action."
DC Thomson declined to comment when contacted by PrintWeek.

Will this strike lead to the closure of DC Thomson?

Its a tough call, offering one site 3% and the other 3.5% could have so many readings, maybe the management want the strike outcome, with circulation figures falling, maybe one division is fairing better than the other, perhaps the capacity is available to make consolidation possible.
Hope the Union and the membership has a clear conscience and both sites are operating at the same profit levels, which would justify the action.
Time will tell.
Always interesting watching the unions flexing muscle, its a sign things are getting tough, you just hope both sides are playing straight and the membership is being given the whole picture.
