University print department claims UK first for FSC certification

The University of Leicester's in-house printing department AVS Print has become FSC certified - a first for a UK university, it said.

AVS Print is planning for all future university publications and marketing material to be printed on FSC-certified paper following the accreditation.

Ian Hickman, print services manager at AVS Print, said: "Our commitment to the environment has always been one of our top priorities.

"When we were alerted to the scheme by paper merchant Howard Smith Paper, we knew that this was our route to take."

AVS Print also supplies and delivers FSC-certified material to university departments for use in their photocopiers.

Hickman said: "The issue of environmental awareness is becoming increasingly important for our customers and, by using the FSC logo, will show how seriously we at AVS Print take this subject."
