Marchant takes helm at PaperlinX Europe as de Voogd stands down

PaperlinX's Toby Marchant has been appointed to the chief executive's role at PaperlinX Europe with effect from 1 July.

“These are challenging times for this industry, with declining volumes in a number of markets, increasing incidents of bad debt and the unwelcome re-emergence of inflation,” said Marchant, who replaces Eduard de Voogd.

“But let’s face it, we haven’t enjoyed easy market conditions for a long time now, so we’re getting pretty good at thriving in adversity.”

Marchant will now be responsible for 24 operating companies in 18 different countries, which between them employ around 5,000 staff with a turnover in excess of £2bn.

This includes the three UK PaperlinX merchant operations: The Paper Company, Robert Horne Group and Howard Smith Paper Group.

“As customers and suppliers consolidate, opportunities for pan-European and international business will grow,” he said.

“I look forward to ensuring that  we are at the forefront of offering customers solutions in this area.”
