Sarney insists B&T bid will be tabled in time

Kevin Sarney has vowed to continue seeking funding for his bid to buy Butler and Tanner out of administration despite failing to put forward a complete bid last week.

Former B&T director Sarney, who is heading a team that also includes former managing director Peter Maunder, said he would ensure a bid was put together “properly and professionally” to counter a planned auction of the closed book printer’s assets.

Unite has had what national officer Ann Field termed “a cordial exchange of views” with Sarney and is understood to support the deal.

This is despite speculation on printweek.com’s message boards that changes to terms and conditions, pay cuts and, potentially, a revised shift pattern, would be implemented should the bid succeed.

Sarney declined to comment on the speculation, but said: “We are currently speaking with relevant parties and ensuring that we have the time to get a bid in properly and professionally.”
