27 jobs axed as Newsquest outsources pre-press staff to India

Newsquest has confirmed that 27 pre-press jobs at its Brighton and Swindon sites are to be cut with the positions outsourced to India.

The decision follows a four-week consultation period with staff, which ended on Monday (19 May).

The 27 jobs, 15 in Brighton and 12 in Swindon, will be carried out by the Indian operations of US firm, Express KCS.

Pre-press staff design adverts and check pages before printing, but this work will now be contracted out to Express KCS – an American firm with sites in India.

A statement to staff from Ian Hunter, group production manager of Newsquest Sussex, said the decision followed the installation of proofing and workflow software.

"Newsquest is continually looking at production efficiencies," it said.

"This is particularly important given the current external challenges and pressures on our business."
