Murdoch price cuts keep The Sun as most-read paper

Rupert Murdoch's latest attempt to keep The Sun's circulation above 3m appears to be working, according to the latest ABC results.

News International's owner has been selling copies at a cut price in London, the latest in his many ploys to keep the newspaper as the country's most read.

In the latest ABC figures, The Sun recorded a circulation of 3,131,919 for April, a month-to-month increase of 1.16%.

November to April figures, which included the tabloid's only drop below 3m for a month in 30 years, came in at 3,091,770 – a 0.65% increase.

In comparison, most of the other nationals once again recorded minor decreases. The Sun's major rival, the Daily Mirror, dropped 3.82% for the six-month period, to just under 1.5m.

The Daily Mail, the country's second best selling newspaper, dropped by 0.46% to 2,313,131.

Claiming the title as the period's biggest loser was The Scotsman, which dropped by almost 8% to 53,465.
