Sherwood eyes Eastern Europe with new Polish finishing site

B1 and B2 printer Sherwood Press has opened a joint venture hand finishing facility in Eastern Europe.

Solutions Polska was launched in the town of Rumia, close to Gdansk in northern Poland, at the end of November.

Nottingham-based Sherwood Press has opened the site in a partnership with Solutions Polska’s managing director Tomasz Kwiatkowski.

According to Sherwood Press’s commercial director Richard Bacon, the new facility will be used to handle difficult-to-finish products that its machines are unable to process, such as packaging and greetings cards. The site will also take on work for the Eastern European market.

In addition, the Polish half of the firm will be bringing in its own work thanks to its local connections.
Currently, around 40 staff are based at the new site and future expansion plans are as yet unclear. However, Bacon said the company would consider putting machinery into the plant. He said: “We have been looking for an opportunity in new Europe for a while and this partnership is perfect because our partners know the local market. We have expertise in the UK market and we will be working closely together.

“This business is complementing what we do in the UK, as well as our business in Hong Kong and China.”

He added that the company could now offer a complete service to customers – UK production for quick turnarounds, the Far East for complicated seasonal items and Poland for hand finishing and packing jobs, such as assembly and collating.
