HP ups the ante in the digital war with £57.1m swoop to buy NUR

HP has fuelled the fires of the digital conversion with the $117.5m (£57.1m) acquisition of NUR Macroprinters, the wide-format inkjet manufacturer.

“This marks another milestone in HP’s growth strategy to ignite the transition from converting analogue pages to digital pages,” said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president, Imaging and Printing Group, HP.

Based in Lod, Israel, NUR is a leading supplier of UV-curable and solvent inkjet presses for display graphics.

The acquisition expands HP’s graphic arts portfolio of digital presses and wide-format printers and furthers the firm’s Print 2.0 strategy to digitise analogue prints by extending the company’s overall digital content creation and publishing platform. With the acquisition, HP will be able to offer additional mid-range UV platforms and technologies.

In last week’s PrintWeek, Santi Morera, HP’s vice president and general manager of the graphic arts business for the Imaging and Printing Group in EMEA, said the company was looking to revolutionise the graphic arts sector and that large format was a key area of investment.

HP’s acquisition of NUR is another step in HP’s graphic arts strategy to broaden its portfolio of digital presses and wide-format printers.

In September, HP bought MacDermid ColorSpan, which also makes wide-format digital inkjet printers and is a key supplier to sign shop franchises, quick printers and other sign-making and screen-printing businesses.
