IT Energy cuts 'wasteful' printing with GreenPrint tool's UK launch

Distributor IT Energy Software is launching software into the UK that eliminates wasteful printing.

The GreenPrint tool analyses each page of a document and identifies typical waste characteristics, such as the last page of an email with only the email signature.

GreenPrint Technologies' programme offers a print preview that users can easily manipulate, including removing images from the print job to save ink and toner.

IT Energy managing director Matt Crane said: "We're finding many organisations are trying to reduce their cost per printed page with multi-functional devices or simply redirecting print jobs to more efficient printers.

"GreenPrint provides further financial savings to this while at the same time reinforcing corporate environmental messaging to staff."

GreenPrint founder and chief executive Hayden Hamilton said there had been a great deal of interest from the UK already.

"As our goal is to make the use of GreenPrint as widespread as possible, we see IT Energy – with its existing relationships with other green technology vendors – as an ideal partner to help us achieve that goal," Hamilton said.

The average UK office worker prints 38 pages per day, of which 29% is wasteful printing, according to a 2007 Lexmark Ipsos survey.
