Forward Press boosts capacity with Océ VarioPrint 6250

The "world's largest publisher of new poetry" has upped capacity 250%, buying an Océ VarioPrint 6250 as part of an 18-month, £1m investment plan.

Forward Press predicts it could quadruple turnover, win more work and bolster its USP thanks the new digital kit.

Managing director Ian Walton said: "We've been printing digitally for 15 years, and the Océ VarioPrint 6250 is the first machine that lives up to my expectations as a true book printer.

"Its speed and quality are phenomenal, and will give us sufficient capacity to print books for some of the other smaller publishers as well as deliver our own products."

The Peterborough-based book printer is "unique" in that it focuses on works from budding authors, publishing ISBN-registered books from unknown authors at runs as low as one copy.

Océ has claimed the 250ppm VarioPrint 6250 is the fastest cut-sheet perfecting digital press on the market. Its duplex print engine produces "offset-like" quality at high-speeds.

Product manager Mark Wilson said: "The Océ VarioPrint 6250 will deliver the high-quality, digitally printed books the company and its customers expect, and provide ample capacity for other small publishers to benefit from Forward Press' cutting-edge book production."
