US innovation could be key to brighter paper
A US-based water-treatment and chemicals giant has begun commercial production on a brightness technology that could be a windfall for papermakers worldwide.
Nalco has claimed its patent-pending Extra White Brightness Technology offers paper manufacturers a way to boost brightness while cutting costs and greening up.
According to the £1.8bn ($3.6bn) turnover firm, the technology gives a one- to two-point increase in ISO brightness while also allowing manufacturers to cut Optical Brightner Agent consumption by 50%.
“Extra White delivers cost-effective brightness and whiteness development to the papermaker,” said Nalco Paper Services Division president John Yimoyines.
“It does so in a very environmentally friendly and safe manner that improves overall operational efficiency while significantly reducing the overall cost of brightness/whiteness development.”
