MPs sign motion backing industry
Packaging has received a vote of confidence from politicians who have backed an early day motion (EDM) calling for greater support for the industry.
As Packaging News went to press, 28 MPs had put their signatures to the EDM, tabled in early December by Labour MP Eric Illsley, which acknowledges the industry's "efficient use of resources and achievements in the reuse and recycling of those resources".
However, nine of the MPs who signed the motion had in the previous month signed another decrying the industry for the "excessive use of packaging used for goods sold in shops".
Illsley said this showed that "some people aren't giving enough thought to the two arguments".
EDMs are used as a way for MPs to highlight issues and generate support.
