Polestar gains FSC accreditation at Direct

Polestar Direct in Leeds has become the Polestar Group's first site to be given the stamp of approval by the Forest Stewardship Council, proving that its paper has been sourced from sustainable forests.

The accreditation process involved an assessment by an independent qualified expert, who approved every link in the production chain, from the sourcing of timber and the manufacture of paper, through to the printing process.

The council's endorsement will enable Polestar Direct Leeds to continue to serve existing customers, including Tesco, as well as attract new business in an increasingly environmentally aware marketplace.

Andy Hopkinson (pictured), purchasing manager at Polestar Direct Leeds, said: "Our success in being awarded FSC/PEFC certification has been achieved largely due to the existing high standards we have in place with regards to paper handling but credit must also go to the willingness of staff in adapting to the new working practices."

Chris Barker, Polestar commercial director, said: "It is of course our intention for more of the group companies to obtain the chain of custody accreditation and we are working at a number of sites to do just that."

Chain of custody certification accreditation is part of the Forest Stewardship Council's Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.
