Folio increases its mailing with Stahl

Trade finisher Folio has boosted its mailing capabilities as part of a spend that could top £750,000 in 2005.

"As well as the mailers we've got further investment plans to enter new areas," said managing director Andy Bird. "But it will be one step at a time."

The first step for the Bristol-based firm was to switch a 78cm folder for a new Heidelberg Stahl TH94 Flexomailer, to handle B1 format work, and the addition of a second TH56 with segmented rollers to allow it to glue and perf in line.

The TH94 line, which is based around the buckle folder that was launched at Drupa last year, has a plough-folding unit so that it can reopen work, glue and close it again.

"We're just trying to re-establish the value of the [mailing] service and get some cost back to the product," said Bird.

The £300,000 investment in its mailing facilities follows a growth in the firm's work and the subsequent need for more flexibility. "It gets very busy, but the TH 56 also allows us to get back to conventional folding if needs be," said Bird.

The £2.3m-turnover firm, which offers perfect binding, saddle stitching, cutting and creasing and pocket make-up, is also looking to replace one of its stitching lines in the near future.
