Punch meets calls for speed with launch of 230ppm Xeikon 8000

Punch Graphix has released the Xeikon 8000 press, its fastest press to date printing at speeds of up to 230 A4 pages per minute.

The web-fed 8000 incorporates Xeikon’s X-800 digital front-end that the company said enabled a seamless and fast integration into any existing workflow.

The IPDS controller is able to keep up with the increased engine speed without any start-stop interruptions and, according to the firm, brings graphic arts quality into transactional markets.

Punch said the press can print up to 13,800 A4 pages per hour and a monthly volume of 8.5m at 1,200dpi. The printer can handle widths from 320- 512mm.

The Xeikon 8000 is the latest in a raft of new digital web presses including the Océ JetStream 1100/2200 and HP’s Web Press, which will be available in 2009, as manufacturers look to capitalise on increased speeds and expand applications into areas such as transpromo.

Wim Deblauwe, chief executive of Punch Graphix, said: “With the Xeikon 8000, Punch Graphix has the leading edge in digital printing and demonstrates that we have continued to evolve in order to address user needs and anticipate future market demands.”
