Falcon Press boosts finishing times with Horizon folder
Book printer Falcon Press has followed up the installation of a B3 Shinohara Press with a folder from Graphic Arts Equipment.
The Horizon AFC-566A B2 combination folding system, which runs at 42,000sph, replaces an older machine in the finishing department.
Managing director Mark Stephenson said: "The older machine needed moving on. The makereadies are a lot quicker [on the new machine] and it has sped up our folding department."
The folder has been placed next to the company's guillotine and, according to Stephenson, the fast set-up on the Horizon means it is a matter of routine to test fold and trim "in order to assure complete accuracy and minimal waste".
The AFC-566A features a large icon-based colour touchscreen, 17 standard fold patterns (including roll fold, zigzag fold and DL fold), and an on-board memory storage that can recall 200 jobs.
Falcon Press was recently awarded highly commended in the British Book Design and Production Awards 2009 Book of the Year category.
