Pixart.it targets UK market with web-to-print offering

Italian online digital printer Pixart.it is looking to make further inroads into the UK by launching its web-to-print service into the market.

The 14-year-old company, which already serves around 50,000 customers across Europe, is targeting SME printers wanting to outsource work, as well as marketing agencies, designers and photographers.

Pixart.it, which has a €28m (£25.4m) turnover, has built its business on delivering within 48 hours for jobs placed though its web-based ordering system, which includes an already 500-strong UK client base.

Venice-based Pixart.it offers cut-sheet services for direct mail, transpromo and corporate stationery, as well as large and grand-format display graphic printing and point-of-sale jobs.

Managing director Matteo Rigamonti said that while breaking the UK market could present a challenge, he expects the company's "straightforward" ordering system, coupled with guaranteed delivery times, will help it develop a customer base in the region.

He said: "We believe Pixart.it can offer UK printers a strong digital printing service to support their current printing operation."

Rigamonti added that quick turnaround times would help customers meet turnaround demands of clients and "maintain a good profit on these high-margin applications".

The company operates a raft of digital kit that includes 15 Roland DG wide-format printers, a Xerox iGen3, six HP Indigo 7000s, two Durst Rho flatbed machines, as well as Mimaki, Zünd, KIP and Duplo kit.

In late 2008, the company became the first European printer to invest in KIP's latest wide-format colour machine, the KIP Color 80.

The 70-staff printer currently handles around 6,000 quotations per day, with 1,200 deliveries dispatched daily across Europe.

Rigamonti said: "The UK has long been one of the prime movers in Europe when it comes to the uptake of new printing technologies."

"We hope that UK commercial printers will now see the benefits of working with a digital print specialist that has also embraced the latest technology and can provide services to help them offer a greater range of products to their customers."

hmm... a worrying proposition to UK based online printers. Their prices are good to end users. Shame they can't spell - see wide format section :)

Given that the UK is behind most of Europe in the adoption of Web-to-Print, according to the Canon commissioned Infotrends report, we shouldn't be too surprised that our marketplace is being targeted. Despite the strength of the Euro, Pixart is able to offer competitive prices because of the efficiency of the web enabled processes that W2P allows. I'm sure UK based printers with a good W2P implementation will beat them on speed and environmental issues. The challenge will be to have a better sales and marketing plan.

So an economy under pressure and continental competitors entering our market, nothing too knew here as some of the printers/print managers we supply web2print solutions to have been doing the same in reverse for years. Now is the time to secure your customers by adapting affordable, easy to use technology - which surpasses what our continental counterparts have to offer by far!

P.S. Peter I do not think we are behind, but we are slipping as a nation!
